2019 Phillip's Touriga Rosé
100% Touriga Nacional, Phillips Vineyard, Texas High Plains
Our 2019 Phillips Touriga Rosé is no exception to our rosé winemaking approach, hand harvested at night and whole-cluster pressed. Tony and Madonna planted Touriga Nacional for us in 2014, and we have plans for red and ports wines from this traditionally big red variety. However, given the age of the vines and our propensity for delicious rosé we couldn't resist a small bottling to "test the waters" and see how the world would react to a rosé made from a grape more akin to Cabernet Sauvignon, small berries and thick skins, than like the typical varieties we use for rosé wines like Cinsaut, Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Carignan.
Much more delicate and light on its feet than the color would suggest, bone-dry with a nice subtle chalky/salty finish that makes this wine great for meals. When picked early, Touriga tends to have really exotic floral aromas and bright red cherry fruit on the palate, something we've come to appreciate. Look for this wine again in the future.
