2019 Round Mountain Rosé

2019 Round Mountain Rosé

Field Blend of Tempranillo, Tannat, and Touriga Nacional - Round Mountain Vineyard, Texas Hill Country

Established in the Spring of 2006, Round Mountain Vineyard was previously farmed by the Strickler family with our help. Since 2011, we worked alongside them to farm the highest quality grapes with respect for the land.  Starting in 2020 we began leasing the vineyard and now are doing every aspect of farming from pruning through harvest and planting cover crops in the fall.  No herbicides have been used since 2010, as little fungicide and pesticide are used as possible, and the products are mainly organic.  Nutrition is all organic, with fish, kelp, molasses, compost, compost tea and rotating different cover crops being utilized to maintain and enhance soil biodiversity and health.  The soils are mostly sandy-clay-loam, a nice blend of the three profiles, with more clay and shallower soils at the Old Touriga block and most of the Tannat, and the sandiest soils on the north end of the vineyard where the rosé fruit is primarily sourced from the youngest vines.  The vineyard is surrounded by oak forests and active small scale farms at around 1200 feet elevation with a north/northeast exposure looking at Shovel Mountain between Round Mountain and Spicewood.

This rosé is a field blend of hand harvested, whole cluster pressed, Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional, and Tannat sourced from the youngest vines in the vineyard.  We planted these 3.5 acres between 2012-2014 and have been keeping this fruit separate from the older vines, harvesting earlier for rosé wine.  We pick the grapes at night, gently process in stainless and bottle as early as reasonable to preserve as much freshness (and maybe a hint of CO2 from fermentation) as possible.  One of our most complex rosé bottlings, showing off the beautiful sand-clay-loam over limestone that makes Round Mountain Vineyard a great place to farm vines.
