2016 Newsom Reserve
This is our third bottling of a reserve wine from Newsom Vineyard on the west side of the Texas High Plains AVA in Yoakum County. Planted in 1986, at over 3700 feet with shallow, rocky soils, Newsom Vineyard is considered one of the best vineyards for red grapes in the High Plains. The grapes were harvested, sorted and destemmed at night in the Newsom’s barn before being hauled back to the winery. The wine is composed of 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Petit Verdot, 25% Tempranillo, and 8% Cabernet Franc. It spent 18 months in a mix of neutral and used French oak before being bottled. After almost two years in bottle, this young wine is starting to drink well but will benefit from more time in the cellar, we recommend decanting.
