2015 High Plains Red Wine
37% Syrah, 23% Mourvedre, 21% Tannat and 19% Petite Sirah sourced from several vineyards in the High Plains. Red, sandy-clay loams soils at 3000-4000 feet with relatively low annual rainfall and cool nights makes the High Plains AVA ideal for farming red grapes. The soil drains well, leading to smaller berry size and thus more concentrated red wines. The elevation means cooler nights, which means the grapes have more time to ripen, leading to a more complex phenolic profile. This wine was aged in mostly neutral oak for 18 months.
